  • Thirty-eight-year career as an Infantryman and General Officer, LTG Barbero has commanded at every grade, from Lieutenant Colonel to Lieutenant General.
  • He commanded an Air Assault Infantry Battalion and a Light Infantry Brigade. As a Brigadier General he commanded one of the Army’s two premier combat training centers, the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) and Fort Polk, Louisiana. As a Major General, he commanded the United States Army Infantry Center and Fort Benning, Georgia. 
  • Served four years in Iraq over three separate combat tours. During his third deployment, as a LTG, he served as the Commanding General of both the NATO and US Commands responsible for the training, equipping and development of all Iraqi security forces and building capabilities of the Ministries of Interior and Defense. He managed a $12 Billion Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program and was the principal advisor to the Minister of Defense and Minister of Interior on operational employment and all aspects of acquisition, training and logistics to support all security forces of Iraq.
  • Since retirement from Active Duty, he has been active in international consulting, primarily in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. From 2017 to 2018, he was a member of a Senior Advisory Group, as the senior Land Forces Advisor and Joint Operations SME, to advise the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ministry of Defense on transformation and integration of its forces, structures and processes.
